pca3 testing

pca3 is a new urine test for prostate cancer.

It measures gene markers in the urine produced by prostate cancer cells. It is used if:

  • Your PSA is higher than normal and you are worried about prostate cancer.
  • You have had a negative prostate biopsy and want further reassurance that there is no cancer present

A PCA3 test is very simple. We will ask for a urine specimin after prostate examination. The urine sample is then sent to the laboratory for analysis to determine the PCA3 score.

If the PCA3 score is low, then prostate cancer is unlikely. If high, the suspicion of prostate cancer is higher, and further biopsies will be recommended.
